Taverna de la Sal was born from a very specific union. Matthew, from New Zealand, brings a life devoted to hospitality, attention to detail and a kind of service you feel without it ever imposing. Mariona, a local from L’Escala, brings the roots, the village, its Mediterranean essence and the warmth of someone who truly knows this place.
Two different seas. One shared understanding of genuine hospitality.
Our 19th century building has always been tied to the sea and salt. It first served local fishermen and later welcomed the first travelers discovering the Costa Brava.
In 2012, Matthew opened the Taverna de la Sal restaurant here. Years later, we restored the building together, preserving its charm while giving it new life as an adults only boutique hotel
Since June 2018, Taverna de la Sal has been a six-room boutique hotel, small by choice, with the restaurant as the heart of the house. True luxury here lies in human connection: being present, calling you by name and caring for every detail so you can simply slow down and enjoy your time by the sea.
